| February Numbers Highlight Increase in Average Sales Price San Antonio Board of REALTORS® releases February 2011 real estate market statistics San Antonio, TX – March 16, 2011 – According to the Multiple Listing Service report by the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® (SABOR), the average sales price for single-family homes in February 2011 was $179,035, a 5% increase when compared to February 2010. “We’re glad to see the price appreciation in our market continue this month,” said Scott Caballero, 2011 SABOR Chairman of the Board. “We remain optimistic about how San Antonio will fare in the months to come.” Last month, the Associated Press reported that home prices in other U.S. cities have struggled to rise, noting unemployment and a lack of consumer confidence as factors. However, the San Antonio Express News reports that San Antonio has countered the trend, citing a dip in the city’s unemployment rate to 7.4% in January. The national unemployment rate is hovering around 9%. “The city’s job growth and steady price appreciation are just a couple of reasons why San Antonio remains in a healthy position,” said Angela Shields, President and CEO of SABOR. “San Antonio is affordable as well, so consumers have reasons to be confident about buying and selling in our city.” New findings by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) report that homeownership is a key driver in economic recovery. NAR estimates that one job is generated for every two home sales and that each home sale at the median price pumps a total of $60,000 into the economy over time. The San Antonio Board of REALTORS® is the largest professional trade organization in San Antonio and represents over 7,000 REALTOR® members. SABOR is one of over 1,600 local boards and 54 state and territory organizations of REALTORS® nationwide that make up the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).
